With the ever-changing climate situation our planet is in, we are now at the important crossroad which demands people act immediately before it's too late. Our project, GreenVET, having its gaze set at the European Green Deal, which intends to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by the year 2030 and make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, aims to tackle the problem from its roots by aiding VET schools around Europe to transform their functions into being more environmentally sustainable. One of the ways we are planning to accomplish this is by building a Community of Practice between our VET-school members.
Why choose to create a Community of Practice, you say. Firstly, we firmly believe in educating by connecting people and sharing information. In that way, we can educate and fill each other's gaps in knowledge. Secondly, we make sure we have a shared understanding of what our goal is and therefore we can work jointly so as to be more effective. Lastly, by co-operating closely with one another, we can explore new possibilities while solving issues that inevitably emerge during the process.
Our own Community of Practice will comprise VET-schools from Germany, Finland, Cyprus, Slovenia, Italy, Latvia and Greece. Our partners will work closely in support of the schools through on-line, as well as a face-to-face training session. Together we will develop every individual VET-school's plan of action so as to transform their functions in the institution's entirety. Our ambition is to alter every single operation of theirs towards sustainability. From the janitors' way of disposing waste, to the administrators' usage of paper and recycled materials and everything in between.
Our interactions with each other are meant to be of substance and oriented not only towards learning but also towards forming a strong bond amongst us. Our community is to attend three online workshop and one in-person training in the city of Espoo in Finland this coming November.
It is without a doubt that only if we work in sync, can we mitigate the issues that have arisen and continue to arise with climate change. GreenVET is willing to lead the way to environmental sustainability. By establishing a Community of Practice, we can rest assured that we work hand in hand in creating a greener Europe. No one is alone; we are all together in this. In the words of the great cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead, "Realize the potential of small actions multiplied by countless individuals to transform the world".
