What is the resource about?
The Wilding Campuses Project is a collaborative rewilding initiative involving the University of Nottingham and partner education institutions that aims to restore nature and increase biodiversity on and around campus spaces where staff and students work and learn. Over a two-year period, the pilot project uses practical activities such as tree and hedgerow planting, wildlife habitat creation, species monitoring, and engagement events to reconnect people with nature and tackle ecological decline. The project also offers biodiversity webinars, workshops, and volunteer opportunities for students, staff and the local community

Why is the resource useful for VET actors?
This resource is useful for VET actors because it provides a real-world example of participatory environmental action and biodiversity enhancement that can enrich vocational curricula in areas such as environmental management, ecology, land-based studies, and sustainability skills. The project’s practical activities — like habitat creation, species monitoring and community engagement — can be adapted as project-based learning exercises in vocational settings, while exposing learners to skills in conservation, ecological surveying and collaborative planning. Moreover, it shows how education institutions and students can play an active role in addressing nature loss and climate issues together, a theme increasingly relevant across green job sectors.
